Building a Life of Faith that Will Stand the Storms of Life (1 Cor. 2:1-4)
I. What we don’t need is fancy speeches, religious rhetoric or divisions vs. 1.
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple (Romans 16:17-18).
II. What we do need is a clear understanding of who Jesus is and why he died.
A. Knowing who Jesus Christ really was is the one thing you cannot afford to miss
He is Immanuel God with us ( Isaiah 7:14).
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6).
He is the Son of God (Mark 1:1) and the Son of Man (Matthew 8:20). And the Son of David (Matthew 15:22 ).
He is the living Word (John 1:1) and He is the anointed one (Matthew 16:16).
He is the Lion of Judah (Rev. 5:5) and He is the lamb of God (John 1:29).
He is the Author of life (Acts 3:15 ) & the author & finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
He is the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8).
He is King of kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:6).
B. Why Jesus had to die.
1. The Righteousness of God requires that all He has created behave righteously.
2. The Justice of God demands retribution for breaking God’s righteous commands.
3. The Holiness of God prevents God from being able to fellowship with sinfulness.
4. The mercy of God desires forgiveness and finds a way in a perfect sacrifice.
III. A faith that can stand the storms of life must have this foundation.
A. You must hear the message (Romans 10:17).
B. You must believe what you hear and receive it through obedience (Romans 1:5).
C. If you receive the message of the gospel you will experience the Spirit of God and the power of God in a transformation of your life (2 Corinthians 5:17 & Galatians 6:15).
