The Blessings of Unity (Psalms 133:1-3)
I. Behold! A command for us to comprehend the reality of a spiritual truth.
A. Unity is essential in obtaining the goodness of God.
1. God is good and what He has planned is good. It is his nature (Exodus 34:6).
And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.
2. Unity is essential in the enjoyment of emotional responses to God and others.
Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy, at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore (Psalms 16:11).
B. Unity is essential in receiving the anointing of the Holy Spirit vs. 2.
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them (Acts 2:1-3).
C. Unity is essential in maintaining the atmosphere where blessings flow from God.
II. God has justified and sanctified us. It remains for us to become unified.
A. To become unified you must experience your oneness with God and each other. When we are unified the world believes. Revival takes place.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word, That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me (John 17:20,21).
B. Unity must be kept in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:2-3 NLT).
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each others faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
III. When the glory comes unity comes and Revival comes (Col. 1:29; Mt. 5:16; 1 Cor. 10:31)
I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me (John 17:22-23).
