Fight the Fight of Faith
(1 Timothy 6:12 & 2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses
( 1 Timothy 6:12).
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge , shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing ( 2 Tim. 4:7).
I. There are two requirements for winning the fight of faith.
A. There are some things you must run from (1 Timothy 6:9).
The desire to be rich and the love of money (1 Timothy 6:9-10).
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart
(2 Timothy 2:22).
B. There are some things you must run after (vs. 11).
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness (1 Timothy 6:11).
II. The fight of faith involves a number of key issues.
A. Eternal life. Lay hold to eternal life to which you are called…
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life ( 1 Timothy 6:18-19).
B. A good confession before many witnesses ( 1 Timothy 6:12).
C. Keeping the commandments.
I charge you to keep the commandment…
(1Tim. 6:13).
D. Finishing the course.
I have finished the course…
(2 Timothy 4:7).
III. The fight of faith will end with unending “sight!
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known
( 1 Corinthians 13:12).
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is (1 John 3:2).
And then shall appear the sign of the son of man in heaven & then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn & they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds with power and great glory
(Matthew 24:30).
