Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People ( 2 Corinthians 1;1-12)
I. A good question to ask is why do bad things happen at all?
A. We live in a fallen world that has suffered the ravages of sin.
For we know the whole creation groaneth and travails in pain until now (Rom. 8:22).
Whereby as one man sin entered into the world and death by sin so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned (Romans 5:12).
B. Satan is alive and well on planet earth. For the thief comes .. to steal, kill destroy Jn. 10:10
Woe to the inhabiters of the earth for the devil has come down unto you, having great wrath because he knows he has but a short time. And the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ (Revelation 12:12 & 17).
C. But why doesn’t God step in and put a stop to all the pain and suffering?
Thou has put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not pur under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him (Hebrews 2:8).
II. Though God does not stop the bad things that happen to us, He will always use them.
A. In the midst of suffering we can receive the “comfort of God” vs. 3-4.
B. The comfort of God received in our suffering equips us to comfort others vs. 4 & 6.
C. The comfort of God is in direct proportion to the suffering endured vs. 5.
D. The deeper the suffering we endure the deeper our faith will grow vs. 9.
E. The suffering teaches us the secret of learning to live by the grace of God and thus experiencing the power of God vs. 12.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me (2 Corinthians 12:8).
III. It is not the bad things that happen to us that diminish our lives nor the good things that happen to us that bless our lives, but rather how we respond to them.
I will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth (Psalms 34:1).
I will trust and not be afraid (Isaiah 12:2). This is the day… I will rejoice and be glad in it!
