Living This Day… for That Day
(2 Timothy 4:1-8)
I. Live your life with only two days in view: this day and that day!
I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall
answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I
am accused of the Jews:
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this
day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those
which the prophets and Moses did say should come (Acts 26:2
and22).
A. Jesus taught the importance of living one day at a time.
Take therefore no thought for the
morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient
unto the day is the evil thereof (Matthew 6:34)
Give your entire attention to what
God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen
tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time
comes (Message Bible).
B. You can conquer every problem if you focus all your power and concentration of thought
upon that problem with the direction and help of Almighty God.
…and now nothing they have imagined
they can do will be impossible for them (Genesis 11:6). I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).
II. Live every day with the fear of God as your compass vs. 1.
III. Live your life by listening to the word, learning the word and then living the word v. 2-4.
IV. Live your life with four defining characteristics.
A. Watch in all things. “As for you, be calm and cool and steady”
B. Endure afflictions. “accept and suffer unflinchingly every hardship”
C. Do the work of an evangelist. “do the work of an evangelist”
D. Make full proof of your ministry. “fully perform all the duties of your ministry”
V. Prepare for your final offering to God of your life.
A. Fight a good fight.
B. Finish your course.
C. Keep the faith.
IV. When its all been said and done all that really matters is what happens on that day!
