The Tribulation Period: Earth’s Darkest Days
(Jeremiah 30:1-7)
I. The Bible predicts a time of unprecedented trouble coming upon the world.
(Daniel 12:1; Matthew 24:21-22; Revelation 7:14).
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
For then shall be great tribulation such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no nor shall ever be. And except those days should be shortened there should no flesh be saved, but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened (Matthew 24:21-22).
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
* It affects all of the world, but is centered around Israel. The time of Jacob’s trouble.
* If God did not intervene every human being would be destroyed.
* The intensity of the world’s pain will have no comparison to any other time in history.
* It will be a time of deliverance and salvation for multitudes.
II. Events leading up to the Tribulation period.
A. World wide preaching of the gospel
(Matthew 24:14).
B. The movement toward a one world religion
(Revelation 19:20).
C. The movement toward a one world government and economic system.
III. A Panoramic view of the Tribulation Period
(Revelation chapter 6)
A. The white horse: appearance of the Anti-Christ
(vs. 2, Daniel 11:36; 2 Thess. 2:1-5).
36And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things.
B. The red horse: World War III
(vs. 4 and Revelation 9:15-19).
18By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths
(Revelation 9:18).
C. The black horse:
(vs. 5 and Revelation 13:16-17).
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
D. The pale horse: Death with hell following (vs. 8).
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands (Revelation 7:9).
And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 7:13-14).
E. The persecution and death of many who were slain for their testimony
(Revelation 6:9).
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
F. World wide chaos from cosmic disturbances and the shaking of the earth (Rev. 6:12-17)
G. The tribulation period ends with the Final battle of the Ages: Armageddon
(Rev. 16:11)
And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
IV. Jesus taught that we have a choice to make if we would escape these things that are coming to pass
(Luke 21:28, 36; Revelation 3:10).
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
