Pressing Toward the Mark (Philippians 3:1-14)
I. Experience of Authentic Worship.
A. True worship Jesus said involves worship that originates in the spirit and truth.
Jesus said, The time is coming and now is when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and truth (John 4:23-24).
Verily, verily I say unto you except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I say ye must be born again (John 3:5-60).
B. True worship focuses on Jesus Christ.
C. True worship has no confidence in the flesh.
II. You must make personal sacrifices for Christ vs. 7.
III. You must repent of your own righteousness and accept His righteousness by faith.
IV. You must pursue a practical personal knowledge of Christ vs. 10.
A. Knowing how much He loves you (1 John 3:9-10 and Ephesians 3:18-19).
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten son into the world that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His son to be a propitiation for our sins.
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our life for the brethern ( 1 John 3:16).
B. Knowing our full forgiveness in Christ.
V. You must experience the Power of his resurrection.
VI. Must be willing to accept the fellowship of his suffering.
VII. Live in the present forgetting what is behind reaching to what is ahead
… let us run with patience the race set before us looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith… (Hebrews 12:1b-2a).
