The Spiritual Body ( 1 Corinthians 15:35-58)
I. The Spiritual body is the fruit or the work of God having sown a natural body.
A. The spiritual body has a glory far exceeding the natural body.
1. It is sown in corruption, raised in incorruption vs. 42.
2. It is sown in dishonor, but raised in glory vs. 43.
3. It is sown in weakness, but raised in power vs. 43.
4. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual or heavenly body vs. 43.
B. God’s original design will be completed. Let us make man in our image after our likeness …(Genesis 1:26).
II. How do we understand what the body will look like and what are its capabilities?
A. It will be like Jesus’ resurrected body (1 John 3:2; Philippians 3:21).
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
B. What could Jesus do in his resurrected body?
1. He could speak, pass through walls breathe and be touched (John 20:19-30).
2. He could cook and eat (John 21:12).
3. He could travel at walk and talk and travel at will (Luke 24:13-30).
4. He could teach the glorious spiritual, eternal truths of God (Luke 24:27).
5. He could make the “heart burn” (Luke 24:31).
III. How should the anticipation of this wonderful change that is coming to us affect us in the way we live today (1 Corinthians 15:58)?
Therefore, my brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
